History
The history is brief as one will read.
During the 17th century, there was very little time when peace prevailed. During the Rappenkrieg, a peasant uprising that lasted from 1612 until 1614, and the Thirty Year's War (1633 to 1638) the village's economic development went into decline. Also during the Pfälzer-Erbfolge Wars (1688 to 1697) foreign troops passed through the region.
As a result of the Treaty of Campo Formio in 1797, the Canton of Fricktal became a French protectorate, forming the front line between the French Revolutionary and the Austrian troops in the War of the Second Coalition. On 20 February 1802, Rheinfelden was made a district capital of the newly created Principality of Frickgau, which joined the Helvetic Republic in August. On 19 February 1803, Principality of Frickgau/Canton Fricktal, including Zuzgen, was absorbed into Canton Aargau.
During the time the Principality of Frickgau was operational, the ruler of this area only ruled for 364 days. S.D. Fürst Andreas I ruled until the principality was absorbed into the Canton Aargau, on 19 February 1803.
